I am teaching in March a class on Watercolor on Yupo. And so today I helped, somewhat, to hang a show and my work.
There are tons of books on teaching writing and on writing. Some are somewhat helpful, and many are not. And there are, if this is possible, even more books on watercolor. Take a look at bookstores, your local library, or our artist league. Most of the books are on watercolor, watercolor flowers, watercolor weather, sea, etc. There are some books on acrylic, though not many. But there are fewer books on pastels, colored pencil, etc. And the fewest books seem to be on oil. Whether this is because these artists don't want to share, or because it is impossible to teach, who knows.
Whether or not to paint on Yupo is controversial. The North Carolina Watercolor Society wouldn't let you enter paintings on Yupo last year. This year, however, you can. Why not allow it, and then allow it?
In reality, it is harder to paint on Yupo. The watercolors pool, dry unevenly, or slide around. But with patience, a sense of humor, and constant experiment, you can do it. Sound familiar? To me it sounds like a second language learner learning to write. It is difficult. The words all seem to mean the same, and there are tons of grammar rules, organizational rules, etc. It takes constant practice to write in English, even for a native speaker. It takes patience. You and your teacher need a sense of humor.
There are few differences between learning to write and learning to paint. There are tons of differences between teaching. I will be concentrating on this during the month. Below is one of my paintings in the show, it is called Divving around Aruba and is in Watercolor on Yupo. It is not for sale until after March.
